Around the Ship

Celebrating Vessel C6WR2, the “MS National Geographic Explorer”

When we started planning our trip to Antarctica, we quickly confirmed our instinct that the only people to travel with were Lindblad/National Geographic. But what we hadn’t considered was the choice of ships – the Orion or the Explorer.

Both are excellent, and both seem (in our inexperienced view) in a different league to other, more conventional cruise ships taking passengers to Antarctica. Once we did our homework, we plumped for the Explorer, being the more recently fitted out, and slightly more advanced in its equipment.

From the ice-cutting capabilities to the stabilisers (for the dreaded Drake Passage), the ship promised to look after us at least as well as any other vessel, and we hoped better. After our spell aboard, we are even more convinced it was the right decision, and worth every penny of the price premium over other options.

Below are a few pictures that give a sense of life aboard the ship.
